I picked this topic because nowadays social media affects young people a lot and in many ways. Young people use social media to help them explore and create identity, connections, attitudes and behaviour.
There are a lot of articles written, from the the toxicity of Instagram to social media being blamed for increasing mental health issues among children. The online world has a negative impact on young people.
However, I find this topic very interesting and even inspirational. I hope my movie will be inspirational in some ways, maybe even helpful for some young people.
As I started thinking about how would I do it, film it, who to choose to act in my movie, I realised my best friend is someone whom affects social media. She was just the perfect role for my movie so I asked her to act in it and she accepted the idea. In the very beginning, I already knew that I am going to film in my house, because it also represents this “perfect life”, because the house is in some way, “perfect”. Like the protagonist is supposed to have that kind of life.
I also found this topic good for this A level project, because it is representational and that is A level media studies partially about.
