MISREPRESENTATIONS IN MEDIA

Although I did not present any examples of misrepresentation in my movie, I think the idea was touched upon in a way.

The idea that people are not what they seem is the main idea of the whole movie and is closely connected to misrepresentation. Choosing a pretty petite girl as my actress, no one would seem to think twice about her struggle with perfection and external image. The first half of the movie shows a normal life of a normal girl but it gets darker and deeper as it goes. The need to hide the true nature and present an image or a front to the outside world could be interpreted as a way of escaping judgement and criticism.

The misrepresentation in media is a social issue and is in touch with misrepresentation by society. I felt the need to highlight this fact in a blog post so that this fact would not go unseen and forgotten.

I also wanted to highlight a little bit the fact that my character’s behaviour in the beginning of the movie would be considered normal when in fact it isn’t. Sh his obsessing over her looks and is trying really hard to look put together, which I personally think is a huge media influence. The fact that from a young age women are taught to look pretty and nice all the time seeps into reality and becomes desperate obsessive behaviour.
